Cleaning Techniques for the Visually Impaired:
Clean in a grid-like pattern left-to-right and top-to-bottom, overlapping where you clean.
Feel the surface underneath the paper towel or wipe.
Spray cleaner on a paper towel instead of on the surface that is to be cleaned.
Keep cleaning supplies organized and in the same place each time after use.
Clean surfaces regularly on a daily or near-daily schedule.
Regularly check if something needs to be cleaned by feeling it with your hand.
Check if any object is on the floor by sweeping the floor with your foot.
Clean whole areas at a time. For example, all kitchen counters.
Use a tray with raised edges for activities for an easy cleanup.
When cleaning food crumbs from a table, slide your hand on its side towards the edge to collect the crumbs. A tray or plate can be underneath the edge of the table to collect the crumbs.
When you vacuum or sweep, divide the floor into small sections, using furniture or other landmarks to outline the boundaries of your working area.
Put a wipe on the floor then move it around with your shoe.
Label cleaning product containers to ensure that you are using the appropriate product.
For spray bottles, you can add a bump dot or tape to the part of the bottle that’s for when it’s in spray mode.
Put a bump dot on vacuum buttons.
Put a rubber band around cleaning product containers.
A Liquid Level Indicator can be used when pouring cleaning liquids.
Use tide pods and dishwasher pods instead of the liquid alternative.
Recommended cleaning devices include wet jet, handheld vacuum, and black or bright colored broom with standing dustpan.
